Wright had his one year checkup and he hated every minute of it. I have never seen him get so upset as he did when he got his 4 shots! He turned bright red, was screaming and shaking...poor guy. He is in the 45th percentile for height, 60th for weight and 70th for head. The dr. said that based on Brendan's and my height, he will probably be a little taller than dad when he is done growing. Basically, I interpreted all of this as another example that he got pretty much all of Brendan's genes and none of mine. I am still claiming his hair as coming from me though...although Brendan has better hair (sorry Wright) :)
As of today, he has started standing on his own. He has been doing this for a while now but every time he realized he was standing, he would quickly sit down. Today I have seen him standing twice without any help. Maybe walking is on the horizon, but he really still shows very little interest.

Wright is One!
Wright turned one yesterday and we had a great day. Gigi and Papoo were in town to celebrate and stayed at our house. We started the day by waking Wright up with cameras and the Birthday song. Then he had a blueberry muffin with a candle and another round of the birthday song. In the afternoon, we had family over for a party complete with cake, ice cream, balloons and tons of gifts. He had a blast. He ate the icing off the cake in pieces and was done after that. His favorite part was definitely playing with all of his big cousins. After the party, the whole fam went to Tilley's for dinner. What a day! Wright (and I) crashed when it was all over.
Gettin' ready for the big day in my birthday tee shirt.

Papoo is so fun to look at with a beard and glasses!
My crazy cousins wore these gross teeth for Halloween.

Lovin' that blue icing.
Opening gifts was crazy, but at least all the cousins helped.
Gigi, Papoo, Greatma and Greatpa gave me a piano that I love!

Halloween Carnival '08
We went to the LHAECPTA Halloween Carnival with the Harpers today. Wright and Lanie were so cute in their costumes - a dinosaur and a lady bug.
RAAAAAAAWR!

And he's off....
Moms and little ones.
They both got balloon dogs on leashes. That was a big hit!
Cutest pumpkins in the patch.

We had a great time at the Arboretum last night with the Akhtars and Woodards at a Jimmy Buffet cover bad concert. Here are some pics.

Fair Day
We went to the state fair last weekend with the Lipscombs and had a blast! Wright really enjoyed watching his big cousins go on rides and play games in the Midway. He also tasted sausage on a stick, a corny dog and a fried grilled cheese. Then to top it all off, he took a ride on the Ferris Wheel. He was smiling the whole time and checking out the sights. What a great day!
Wright and me on the ferris wheel - he had a lot more fun than this face expresses.

The Pointer
Wright is 1 year old on Sunday and I don't want to forget this adorable stage. One of the cutest things he does is points to everything and everyone as if to ask "What is that?" Then he likes to wait patiently as we tell him what he is looking at. Every time we walk down the hallway, he wants to stop and look at all the family pictures. He points to people and we tell him who it is. He also loves music now and claps along every time the song is over (whether we are singing or it is on the radio). Even though his words are still not very clear, he talks all the time. Yesterday when I picked him up from school, the whole way home he told me all about his day. Of course it was just gibberish, but he obviously had lots of things he wanted to share. I cannot believe he is almost one, it is very bittersweet. Such a fun age, but I wonder where that 6lb baby went.

Some 11 Month Pics
Candace and Wright at her birthday lunch.
We found Wright like this in his crib one night when we checked on him - he is like his father in EVERY way, including sleeping in the strangest positions.
Play group...
This shirt was a must-have for Wright since "Rawrr" is his favorite thing to say.
Riley and Wright were not happy to take this picture together.
Riley came over to play and per usual, Wright's favorite part was watching her do all the big kid stuff.
Wright learned this trick from Riley, and his toy has now become a chair.

Long Time No Blog
Well Wright has been sick for about 2 weeks, so I have been bad about blogging. Once again (similar to his 7th month illness), he had a virus that he picked up at school and then caught a cold which turned into an ear infection. I managed to pick up both of these from him, so needless to say, we were out for the count for a while.
Regardless, we have managed to squeeze in some fun. We went to the Arboretum for the Eddie Coker concert on Monday. I knew Wright would enjoy being outside and watching the big kids like he always does, but I never thought he would get much out of the music. I could not have been more wrong! He LOVED the music and kept dancing especially to the songs that had a strong beat. He would wave his arms up and down, smiling and then clap his hands - so proud of himself.
He has so much fun when I sing songs with him, especially funny ones that have moves or silly sounds. Today I was singing an old camp song about raindrops being made of candy. There is a part where you open your mouth and sing "Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah" as if you are catching the candy in your mouth. Wright loved this part and kept imitating me "Ah, ah, ah". So cute. Then when we were in the car listening to Tom T. Hall sing about talking to goats, you can't say meow like a cat, Wright started saying "meow, meow" (sounds more like a high pitched "aaaawwww") - I was so proud.
Another thing that is so telling about his personality is that every time I pick him up from school, no matter which teacher hands him to me, they make a comment about how he is "the most laid back boy ever". Every kid in his class is crying when I get there (or at least most of them) and Wright is off by himself playing with a toy or checking out the furniture in the room. I think he really likes his school.
I cannot believe he is almost 1! I keep telling everyone how each time I think about it, I get all teary as if he is going off to college or something. I don't know why, I just can't believe he is getting so big so fast. It is just so strange how fast it goes by - no matter how cliche that sounds.

Pumpkin Patch Pictures
We had a very fun Saturday at the Arboretum Pumpkin Festival with the Vanderwoudes. Katie really like baby "Wice" and Wright liked playing in the pumpkins and being outside after a week of being sick and home-bound. We had a picnic, took lots of pictures in the pumpkins and sought out the Pumpkin Tasting Fest which consisted of one table with some muffins on it :)
