Jenny and Jeff's Wedding

We went to Jenny and Jeff's wedding this last weekend at the Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose, TX. It was a great place with tons of cool outdoor stuff to do. And in typical J and J style, everything was very nice and the food was wonderful. We had a great relaxing weekend away. Wright stayed in Dallas with Gigi and Papoo and had tons of fun. Their big outing was a trip to the FW Zoo which he loved.

Hitting balls on the driving range.

Brendan in the skeet shooting stand waiting for his turn.

He looks funny holding a gun to me.

And I look even funnier! I only hit one out of about 15!

Wright's 2nd Birthday Party

My little baby is almost 2, and it is very bittersweet. Today we had his second birthday party. He loved everything about it. The whole way to the park, he was singing to himself "Happy Birthday to Wright" and was still talking about his cake that we picked up yesterday. The theme of the party was Cowboy and Wright wore his best western wear. His boots were hand-me-downs and about 2 sizes too big, so they fell of within 5 minutes of playing. But he still looked cute in the rest of his outfit. All his friends wore western attire too! The big hit of the party (besides cake and Chick Fil A nuggets) was the "gold rush" where all the kids hunted for gold coins and nuggets. After his 3.5 hour nap, he got to open his presents. Overall it was a fabulous day!

Two of Wright's favorite gifts were his Lego Thomas train set and his tee ball.

Party Pics...

What a handsome cowboy.

Wright didn't even eat the cake, he just licked the blue icing off the top.

Blowing out the candles.

After we sang Happy Birthday and he blew out the candles, everyone cheered for him. It took him a second to understand what was going on, then he started cheering as well.

Wright spent most of the party following around his big cousins.

The pull-apart cupcake cake was a huge hit.

We laughed at how quiet all the kids got when they were eating their yummy nuggets.
Hunting for gold.

Ruthie and Riley searching for nuggets.

Wright and Mommy.

Which one is heavier??

His bucket is almost full, but he is still hunting.

Lanie looked so cute in her pink cowboy boots.

Eleanor would have won best costume for sure - how adorable is this!

New Favorite Phrase

I had to write something about this because it is by far Wright's favorite thing to say these days. Wright has been obsessed with Wiggles for some time now, and has started saying "1, 2, 3 WAKE UP JEFF" a million times a day! He thinks it is so funny and we do too! When he says "Jeff" it sounds a lot like either "Czech" or "Chips" but the cutest thing is that he counts 1, 2, 3 with his fingers and then puts his hands on both sides of his mouth to shout "Wake up jeff". He has started doing it to me when I am laying down (1, 2, 3 wake up mommy!) and to Lucy when she is resting or tired. I have visions of this continuing with a newborn...I can see him running into the baby's room and screaming "1, 2, 3, WAKE UP BABY!!!" That would not be good. :)

The State Fair 2009

We went to the State Fair today and had a great time. Wright is just now old enough to do a lot of the stuff so he loved it. We enjoyed watching him and of course eating a ton of fried food!

Brendan took Wright on the airplane ride.

He rode the train with Mimi.

And loved the horsey merry-go-round with Mommy.

We took the Skyway from one side of the Midway to another.

Wright was so excited that he won a prize after fishing.

The petting zoo was a big hit. He loved the baby piggies.

Feeding the cows. Wright did not like the feeling of them eating out of his hand, so he would use these shovels to hold the food.

He did like watching Mommy feed the animals from her hand though.

We went to the farm area and walked through a day at the farm.
He got to ride a tractor.

Here he is picking vegetables in the garden.
He looked so cute in his apron with his bucket which he loved carrying.

Here is a pic of Wright with the giant pumpkins and scarecrows when we went to the Farmers Market to pick out our pumpkins.

Arboretum with Jake and Owen

Wright had a great Monday morning at the Arboretum with Jake and Owen. The highlight for him was the petting zoo with the goats, chicken and pony. It has been raining here for weeks so everything was so muddy and he was a huge mess when we left. We also went to the Eddie Coker concert, but after about 15 minutes of music, Wright wanted to leave. They had moved it inside because of the weather and my guess was it was a little too loud for him. He and Jake are so cute together...Wright is like the instigator and Jake chases him. Then they both get reprimanded for not obeying. Poor Jake, he is simply following the "bad kid" ;) Owen was adorable and kept wanting me to hold him and help him stand and clap...I loved it and it made me excited for baby #2.

Fall Weather

The fall weather has been wonderful in Dallas (besides the rain that is). Wright has enjoyed being able to play outside more. He loves to go around the yard and pick up "trash" and put it in the trash can/chiminea. His trash includes pecans, mushrooms and sticks. Check out these sticks he gathered the other day after a big storm. He is quite the little worker bee!

23 weeks with baby #2

I am 23 weeks pregnant and people are finally commenting that I look like I have popped out. Because I am so tall, I tend to have that "Is she fat or pregnant?" stage longer than most women, so needless to say I am relieved to have reached this milestone. We are doing monthly sonos with this baby, so here are the pics from last week. Brendan claims the baby looks a lot like him - we'll see!

Memory

One thing that has really amazed me recently with Wright is his memory of things that happened. When we have been with friends, I can say "Who did you play with today?" and he will name his friends. Or if I mention that we are going somewhere he really wants to go, he will not stop talking about it until we are there. After school, I can ask him what he ate that day and he will list his whole lunch. It's really impressive. But the funniest and most impressive of all was what happened the other day when the Grissens came over. The last time we saw them at their house, Amy got out a big Cookie Monster puppet and was acting like Cookie Monster with it. This really freaked Wright out for some reason. So when they came over the other day, he was back in his room and I said "Ruthie is here." and he started looking stressed and saying "Cookie Mosteh". It has been weeks since that happened. I cannot believe his little memory is that good!

Big Boy Room

We spent much of Saturday painting and putting together Wright's big boy room. It looks SO cute and he already loves it. We still have a few finishing touches before I will post pics, but I am very pleased with how it turned out...especially because of all of my bargain hunting to put it all together on a budget! The plan is to put Wright in there after his second birthday so that he will be used to it by the time baby #2 arrives.

On another note, Wright is still talking more and more every day. Today he said "Mama hold you now." I melted a bit. He also knows all his shapes because of the iphone game and his shapes book. All we do is point and he will say what they are. He still loves music and singing. The other day he started singing his ABC's, which then turned into Twinkle Twinkle and then Baa Baa Black Sheep. So funny since they all have the same tune. I think there might have even been an Itsy Bitsy Spider in there as well. I was loving his medley of music! I also love that he can now tell me what he wants to eat or at least say no to what he doesn't want. This also means that I can bribe him to finish veggies by promising things like yogurt or more fruit for dessert. It's amazing what he will do to earn those special treats.

I Did It!

Poor Wright has been sick with a stomach bug like I had over the weekend. Luckily his has not involved throwing up like mine did and he seems to be feeling ok generally speaking. But his little bottom is completely raw from all of the dirty diapers. So every time we have to change him, he screams and shakes and says "no no no no!" It's so sad and we of course feel like we are torturing our child! Last night I was working and Brendan said he was putting diaper cream and a new diaper on Wright and he was so upset. So Brendan told him "It's ok buddy, you can do it, you will be ok." After he was all done, Wright stood up and proudly said "I did it!" We did not even know he could say that, but he was so proud of himself for making it through the torment. What a brave boy!

Almost Two...

Here are some recent pics of Wright. We cannot believe he is almost 2! Wow, how time flies...

Walking around in my shoes...

Playing in the rain. Is this not the most hysterical expression?

Hanging out with Eleanor and Lanie. He LOVES these girls and talks about them ALL the time!

Now, now, now and other updates

As of this week, Wright's word of choice is "now" (in addition to "no" of course). Everything he says is followed by "now". "Mom, cup, now", "tv, show, now", "go, bye, now". As demanding as it is, I can't help but think it's cute. He is just so funny!

He has been struggling with his 2 year molars coming in for a few weeks now and wakes up screaming every few days. It is so sad and I hope the teething ends soon. The good news is that I can say, point to what hurts and he will point to his mouth. I love being able to actually communicate with him. Even though he can't say everything, he understands pretty much all I say. I can tell him to go get the blue ball by his red chair and put it in the basket and he will do exactly that! I can also ask him what he wants to eat and he will either answer or tell me no to the things he doesn't want until I get it right. The only downside to this is he answers "mac cheese" or "tortilla cheese" for almost every meal!

He loves school! Every day when we go, he runs right into his classroom and barely says bye to me. I still pick him up early because I leave at 12, and he is always waiting for me by the door. It will be interesting to see what he does if I leave him all day.

It's A Boy!

We found out today that Wright is going to have a little brother, and we are so excited! We love everything about raising a son and know Wright will also love having a permanant play mate. It was so funny during the sono, the little guy was playing with his toes and therefore all tucked up in a fetal postion facing my spine. They almost could not even tell us the sex! They never got a good look at his face and asked us to come back in a month so they can guarantee that all looks normal in that area. But from what the doctor could see, he was perfect! Apparently he does not like to be forced to do something that he is not wanting to do - NO idea where that came from ;) He weighs approximately 9 oz, a little over half a pound and already completely developed with organs, appendages and all. Our plan as of now is to keep the name a secret with this one, but we do not have any idea yet what it is going to be anyways.
