First Day of School

Wright and I both had our first day of school on Wednesday. He seemed to like it as best as I could tell although I did not get much info from his teachers. I am sure he will learn to love it though. My class was great and I think its going to be a great year overall. Here are some pics...

Baby #2 - 17 weeks

I am 17 weeks pregnant this week. The baby is about 5 inches from crown to rump, about the size of an open hand and weighs app. 5 oz. We cannot wait to find out the sex of this little peanut next Tuesday morning!

Terrible Twos Already?

Wow, we have had a rough couple of days with little Wright man. He is cutting some sort of tooth (maybe a 2 year molar?) and he is obviously in pain and therefore very very irritable. Today he had his first major temper tantrum, and I was completely at a loss as to how to handle it. It started with me giving him mac and cheese for lunch which was hot and I am guessing he did not like it that hot and it made him really mad. Then he did not want to eat at all and no matter what I tried or what I offered him, he would not stop screaming and crying. So I put him in time out to get him to calm down so he could come out and eat his lunch. After about three minutes of screaming in his crib, I went in and picked him up. At this point, I felt sorry for him. He was so hysterical he did not know what he wanted. I held him and he kicked me and wanted down, I put him down and he screamed and wanted back up. Then he begged to go in his booster seat, so I tried to strap him in and he screamed "out, out". Then I ditched the original lunch and offered him other things, all his favorites. He did not want ANY of it. Finally after about 20 minutes of this, I decided that there was no logic, rhyme or reason, this was a true full fledged temper tantrum and there was nothing I was going to be able to do to soothe him. He had had peanut butter crackers for a snack and it was almost nap time, so I decided he just needed to go to bed. I put him in his crib, still shrieking and out of control and just walked out of the room. By this point, I was pretty shaken too. I had to listen to him scream for about 10 minutes more until like a switch of a light, he was out. Wow, I hope this was exaggerated because of the teething and not just a glimpse into my future. I can't even imagine what I would have done had we not been at home. Poor little guy...

22 Months - talking, talking, talking

Wright is able to communicate so much better these days which is really nice with cutting back on the whining.

Here are some things he is saying a lot of:

- counts to 13 on his own
- sings entire twinkle twinkle and itsy bitsy spider along with many words to at least 20 other songs. He loves his Wee Sing Animals cd and requests "Name-o, Eeeeiiiiooo, Spyder and Mawtch" aka "BINGO, Old Macdonald, Itsy Bitsy Spider and Ants Go Marching".
- hears a phone ring and says "phone, hello"
- when I ask what he wants for dinner, he will say "mac cheese" and for lunch he will say "samich"
- when I am trying to get his attention and tell him "say yes mommy", he almost always says "yes daddy"
- he tells us when he has poo poo and pee pee (sometimes)

Other new words:
- animals
- open
- cup
- toots (yes, such a boy)
- no (all the time!)
- tree
- hot dog
- turkey
- Oh boy!
- shoes
- towel
- shower
- Jama (Pajama Time)
- snack
- golf
- movie
- dance
- toes
- Amen
And many more...

Funny Boy

Wright cracks us up these days. He just laughs at himself all the time and makes us laugh all the time. He is adorable when he sings. His favorites are "Twinkle, Twinkle", "How do you talk to a little baby goat?", "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Bingo". But he sings to probably 15 more songs than that - he just loves music! He has also started saying so much more and he is stringing a lot of words together in phrases.

Here are some funny pics from the past week.

After he was eerily quiet for about 5 minutes, we went to check on him and found him on the couch "typing" on my computer. Although this is a BIG no touch, we had to capture it on camera cause it was so funny!

When he doesn't want to get out of the bath, he will just play in the leftover bubbles and lay on his stomach to make it harder for us to pick him up. Look at that cute white butt! This will be an embarassing photo in the years to come...

The Science Place

We met some friends from our play group at the Science Museum today. They have this fabulous kids' area with tons of stuff for kids to do. Wright had a blast! His favorite things were the water table and the farm area where he could collect wooden eggs and fake produce in a bag.

Loading up pumpkins and eggs in his bag.

Picking pumpkins.

Riding a horse in the barn.

Checking out all of the stuffed animals on display.

What are these spinny things?

He loved the car in the water table...not sure why that was there.

The Legos were super fun.

Cutest fireman I know...

Here he comes to rescue you...

Possum Kingdom

We had a fabulous lake weekend with the Akhtars and Holms at Possum Kingdom. The highlights were all the precious kids (Molly, Eleanor and Hudson were there), Wright riding the waverunner and all the yummy food! Wright did MUCH better in his new thinner life jacket. He played in the water and on rafts wearing it and even did a pretty good job on the boat. It was a vast improvement to how he was at Jennie's lakehouse a month ago.

Here are some other great pics that I stole off Courtney's blog...

Daddy Kisses

Brendan is out with friends tonight and Wright did the cutest thing when I put him to bed in B's absence. We always say prayers and then both give Wright kisses before he goes in his crib. Tonight I said, "Can I have a kiss?" and he kissed me and then turned his head and kissed where Daddy would be standing. Then he kissed me again and turned to kiss "Daddy" again. It was so cute...guess he misses when we aren't both tucking him in.

Cute New Words/Phrases

Of course a lot of these are TV related...

Oh man
Yater "later"
Showah (shower)
Trash
Jamma (pjs)
Cookie
Bite peeeeese
Eemo (Elmo)
Deeayo (Diego)
Dora, Boots
Boots (books)
Coyers (colors)
Gaypes, nana, meyon (grapes, banana, melon) - some of his favorites still
Cup
VeeOoo (video)
Boosh (movie - no idea why)
Baby
Max (he says this repeatedly throughout the day)

He has also developed quite the sense of humor and will say these long phrases of jibberish mostly and then die laughing at himself. He also will laugh at books and songs that are meant to be funny like he gets it :)

20 Month Tidbits

- He is saying new things every day. Last night out of nowhere, he said "Cookies, yum yum yum" like Cookie Monster on Sesame Street.
- He loves Dora the Explorer and begs to watch it everyday. "Dora, Boots, Dora, Boots."
- He can count to 10 on his own, but his favorite part by far is "8, 9, 10, wheeeeeeee!"
- He is a pretty good eater. He will eat a sandwich with mayo, mustard and pickles. On that note, he LOVES pickles.
- Just this week, he has started eating a lot less overall. At dinner, he only seems to want a few bites before he wants "out, out please".
- Not always, but sometimes, he will take initiative and clean up his toys on his own without me even asking. This is VERY impressive. Last night, he picked up all his books after we read and went to put them on the shelf.
- If I tell him, he better stop doing something or he is going to get a spanking, he starts hitting his own leg. This is not so good...
- When he says "bye bye", he has now added "yater" to it (later :) I guess I say that a lot.
- When he doesn't like the music I am playing in the car, he will scream "Go way, go way!" I am trying to broaden his music horizons and teach him that there is much better stuff than "Wee Sing Animals" out there.
- He loves looking through photo albums and can name pretty much everyone in our family. He especially loves looking at his own baby pictures.
- In the pool, his favorite thing to do is stand on the steps and repeatedly put his head under water.

Seagrove Beach 2009

We just got back from the beach last night and had a great time. The place where we stayed was perfect for us and only a few houses down from where we got married. Wright absolutely loved everything about the beach. He especially had a great time throwing sand and playing in the waves with Daddy. He really liked when the water slapped him in the face - thought that was hysterical. We were so lucky that we were able to be there the same time as Melanie, Patrick, Max and Luke. Wright LOVES playing with his cousins so that made everything even more fun. Emma (Max and Luke's cousin) was there too and she was great with Wright. It was wonderful for us to have a lot of extra babysitters.

On a down side, right before we left, Wright was diagnosed with hand foot and mouth. He had a very mild case of it, so we were not too worried. But the day we got there, Brendan started showing symptoms. By the last day, his mouth was completely filled with painful sores. I felt terrible for him, but he was such a trooper still and did everything with the best attitude possible, considering he felt so bad.

Overall it was a great trip and we definitely want to make it an annual family trip.

This was the best pic I could get of all the playing Wright and Brendan did in the ocean.

About to take a beach walk.

Do we have to leave????

OTHER PICS
While we were there, we celebrated my 30th birthday. We (Brendan, Melanie, Patrick and I) started with drinks outside and on the beach at Bud and Alleys and then went to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants Cafe 30-A. It was a great time. Luke also had has 6th birthday two days after mine.

Wright loved the rocker at the Lipscomb's house.

Baby #2, 9 1/2 weeks

I just looked up on babycenter.com to learn about what's going on with the new baby. Sadly, I have not been as diligent at following this baby's growth like I was with Wright. I found out that as of this week, the baby is about an inch long and the size of a grape. What I want to know is how is it possible that a baby this tiny is making my stomach pooch out so much already!!! I look like I have been drinking way to much beer :)

Northpark Slides

We met Jennie, Jake and Owen up at Northpark today and went to the area with the ducks and big potted plants that all the kids slide down. Wright wanted out of his stroller and ran right up to the "slides" with all the big kids and started climbing and sliding. It was so cute, he had never done that before and it was like it just clicked all of a sudden. Yet another example of how he is growing up so fast!

The 4th of July

The 4th has always been one of my favorite holidays. I am just such a summer girl and love outdoor festivities. This year we decided to take Wright to the Park Cities parade. I have so many memories of doing this every year growing up and I wanted him to enjoy it. We went all out on decorating his wagon for him to ride in style. A friend tipped us off on how to get great seats in the shade, so Brendan went up to the parade route at 6:30 am to set up our chairs and blankets. When we got back there around 9am, our seats were still there and we had the perfect spot. It wasn't even too hot in the shade!

Wright had a blast watching the floats. He especially loved the police and fire trucks with their sirens and of course grabbing all the candy that people threw. It was funny because all the bigger kids would run and grab the good candy and he would run after and get all the leftovers...he got tons of peppermints and gutter candy ;) He had a few donut holes and three lollipops and was on a complete sugar high when we left! But what else is the 4th about!?? That afternoon post naps, we met the Hannahs and the Woodards at Catherine's dad's house to swim, then headed to the Hannahs in Plano for dinner. What a great day!

All decorated and ready to go...

Brendan had the great idea to buy this thermometer for the sign.

The Brewers let us park a at their house and Charles took a quick ride in the wagon.

Family pic, if only Wright would smile :)

He loved the fans they passed out.

So patriotic, waving his flag.

The moms.

These beads are fun to play with.
