Here is a pic of Wright with the giant pumpkins and scarecrows when we went to the Farmers Market to pick out our pumpkins.

Arboretum with Jake and Owen

Wright had a great Monday morning at the Arboretum with Jake and Owen. The highlight for him was the petting zoo with the goats, chicken and pony. It has been raining here for weeks so everything was so muddy and he was a huge mess when we left. We also went to the Eddie Coker concert, but after about 15 minutes of music, Wright wanted to leave. They had moved it inside because of the weather and my guess was it was a little too loud for him. He and Jake are so cute together...Wright is like the instigator and Jake chases him. Then they both get reprimanded for not obeying. Poor Jake, he is simply following the "bad kid" ;) Owen was adorable and kept wanting me to hold him and help him stand and clap...I loved it and it made me excited for baby #2.

Fall Weather

The fall weather has been wonderful in Dallas (besides the rain that is). Wright has enjoyed being able to play outside more. He loves to go around the yard and pick up "trash" and put it in the trash can/chiminea. His trash includes pecans, mushrooms and sticks. Check out these sticks he gathered the other day after a big storm. He is quite the little worker bee!

23 weeks with baby #2

I am 23 weeks pregnant and people are finally commenting that I look like I have popped out. Because I am so tall, I tend to have that "Is she fat or pregnant?" stage longer than most women, so needless to say I am relieved to have reached this milestone. We are doing monthly sonos with this baby, so here are the pics from last week. Brendan claims the baby looks a lot like him - we'll see!

Memory

One thing that has really amazed me recently with Wright is his memory of things that happened. When we have been with friends, I can say "Who did you play with today?" and he will name his friends. Or if I mention that we are going somewhere he really wants to go, he will not stop talking about it until we are there. After school, I can ask him what he ate that day and he will list his whole lunch. It's really impressive. But the funniest and most impressive of all was what happened the other day when the Grissens came over. The last time we saw them at their house, Amy got out a big Cookie Monster puppet and was acting like Cookie Monster with it. This really freaked Wright out for some reason. So when they came over the other day, he was back in his room and I said "Ruthie is here." and he started looking stressed and saying "Cookie Mosteh". It has been weeks since that happened. I cannot believe his little memory is that good!

Big Boy Room

We spent much of Saturday painting and putting together Wright's big boy room. It looks SO cute and he already loves it. We still have a few finishing touches before I will post pics, but I am very pleased with how it turned out...especially because of all of my bargain hunting to put it all together on a budget! The plan is to put Wright in there after his second birthday so that he will be used to it by the time baby #2 arrives.

On another note, Wright is still talking more and more every day. Today he said "Mama hold you now." I melted a bit. He also knows all his shapes because of the iphone game and his shapes book. All we do is point and he will say what they are. He still loves music and singing. The other day he started singing his ABC's, which then turned into Twinkle Twinkle and then Baa Baa Black Sheep. So funny since they all have the same tune. I think there might have even been an Itsy Bitsy Spider in there as well. I was loving his medley of music! I also love that he can now tell me what he wants to eat or at least say no to what he doesn't want. This also means that I can bribe him to finish veggies by promising things like yogurt or more fruit for dessert. It's amazing what he will do to earn those special treats.

I Did It!

Poor Wright has been sick with a stomach bug like I had over the weekend. Luckily his has not involved throwing up like mine did and he seems to be feeling ok generally speaking. But his little bottom is completely raw from all of the dirty diapers. So every time we have to change him, he screams and shakes and says "no no no no!" It's so sad and we of course feel like we are torturing our child! Last night I was working and Brendan said he was putting diaper cream and a new diaper on Wright and he was so upset. So Brendan told him "It's ok buddy, you can do it, you will be ok." After he was all done, Wright stood up and proudly said "I did it!" We did not even know he could say that, but he was so proud of himself for making it through the torment. What a brave boy!

Almost Two...

Here are some recent pics of Wright. We cannot believe he is almost 2! Wow, how time flies...

Walking around in my shoes...

Playing in the rain. Is this not the most hysterical expression?

Hanging out with Eleanor and Lanie. He LOVES these girls and talks about them ALL the time!

Now, now, now and other updates

As of this week, Wright's word of choice is "now" (in addition to "no" of course). Everything he says is followed by "now". "Mom, cup, now", "tv, show, now", "go, bye, now". As demanding as it is, I can't help but think it's cute. He is just so funny!

He has been struggling with his 2 year molars coming in for a few weeks now and wakes up screaming every few days. It is so sad and I hope the teething ends soon. The good news is that I can say, point to what hurts and he will point to his mouth. I love being able to actually communicate with him. Even though he can't say everything, he understands pretty much all I say. I can tell him to go get the blue ball by his red chair and put it in the basket and he will do exactly that! I can also ask him what he wants to eat and he will either answer or tell me no to the things he doesn't want until I get it right. The only downside to this is he answers "mac cheese" or "tortilla cheese" for almost every meal!

He loves school! Every day when we go, he runs right into his classroom and barely says bye to me. I still pick him up early because I leave at 12, and he is always waiting for me by the door. It will be interesting to see what he does if I leave him all day.

It's A Boy!

We found out today that Wright is going to have a little brother, and we are so excited! We love everything about raising a son and know Wright will also love having a permanant play mate. It was so funny during the sono, the little guy was playing with his toes and therefore all tucked up in a fetal postion facing my spine. They almost could not even tell us the sex! They never got a good look at his face and asked us to come back in a month so they can guarantee that all looks normal in that area. But from what the doctor could see, he was perfect! Apparently he does not like to be forced to do something that he is not wanting to do - NO idea where that came from ;) He weighs approximately 9 oz, a little over half a pound and already completely developed with organs, appendages and all. Our plan as of now is to keep the name a secret with this one, but we do not have any idea yet what it is going to be anyways.

First Day of School

Wright and I both had our first day of school on Wednesday. He seemed to like it as best as I could tell although I did not get much info from his teachers. I am sure he will learn to love it though. My class was great and I think its going to be a great year overall. Here are some pics...

Baby #2 - 17 weeks

I am 17 weeks pregnant this week. The baby is about 5 inches from crown to rump, about the size of an open hand and weighs app. 5 oz. We cannot wait to find out the sex of this little peanut next Tuesday morning!

Terrible Twos Already?

Wow, we have had a rough couple of days with little Wright man. He is cutting some sort of tooth (maybe a 2 year molar?) and he is obviously in pain and therefore very very irritable. Today he had his first major temper tantrum, and I was completely at a loss as to how to handle it. It started with me giving him mac and cheese for lunch which was hot and I am guessing he did not like it that hot and it made him really mad. Then he did not want to eat at all and no matter what I tried or what I offered him, he would not stop screaming and crying. So I put him in time out to get him to calm down so he could come out and eat his lunch. After about three minutes of screaming in his crib, I went in and picked him up. At this point, I felt sorry for him. He was so hysterical he did not know what he wanted. I held him and he kicked me and wanted down, I put him down and he screamed and wanted back up. Then he begged to go in his booster seat, so I tried to strap him in and he screamed "out, out". Then I ditched the original lunch and offered him other things, all his favorites. He did not want ANY of it. Finally after about 20 minutes of this, I decided that there was no logic, rhyme or reason, this was a true full fledged temper tantrum and there was nothing I was going to be able to do to soothe him. He had had peanut butter crackers for a snack and it was almost nap time, so I decided he just needed to go to bed. I put him in his crib, still shrieking and out of control and just walked out of the room. By this point, I was pretty shaken too. I had to listen to him scream for about 10 minutes more until like a switch of a light, he was out. Wow, I hope this was exaggerated because of the teething and not just a glimpse into my future. I can't even imagine what I would have done had we not been at home. Poor little guy...

22 Months - talking, talking, talking

Wright is able to communicate so much better these days which is really nice with cutting back on the whining.

Here are some things he is saying a lot of:

- counts to 13 on his own
- sings entire twinkle twinkle and itsy bitsy spider along with many words to at least 20 other songs. He loves his Wee Sing Animals cd and requests "Name-o, Eeeeiiiiooo, Spyder and Mawtch" aka "BINGO, Old Macdonald, Itsy Bitsy Spider and Ants Go Marching".
- hears a phone ring and says "phone, hello"
- when I ask what he wants for dinner, he will say "mac cheese" and for lunch he will say "samich"
- when I am trying to get his attention and tell him "say yes mommy", he almost always says "yes daddy"
- he tells us when he has poo poo and pee pee (sometimes)

Other new words:
- animals
- open
- cup
- toots (yes, such a boy)
- no (all the time!)
- tree
- hot dog
- turkey
- Oh boy!
- shoes
- towel
- shower
- Jama (Pajama Time)
- snack
- golf
- movie
- dance
- toes
- Amen
And many more...
